Why You Might See "Unable to Allocate Tickets"

For high-demand events, tickets can sell out incredibly fast. When you reach the ticket selection screen, there may still be some available. But, by the time your request is processed, those tickets might already be taken by others. That's when you’ll see the message "Unable to allocate tickets."

I know how frustrating it is to miss out on tickets. But, I've tried to make things as fair as possible. At the point ticket sales open, there may be more requests than tickets available. The system has to queue up the requests and process them in order, so that it's fair, and we don't accidentally sell too many tickets.

Here's how it works:

When you load the event page, the system checks what is available and gives you a chance to reserve them. You see what tickets are available at this point in time, but the tickets are not reserved. You select tickets and submit the request, then the system tries to allocate the tickets to you. After this point they are reserved, and you can proceed with payment.

Once tickets are allocated to a request, they're temporarily reserved for 10 minutes. That should give the person time to complete payment. We aim for 10 minutes as a balance (event organisers can change this). Should be long enough for most people to complete checkout without stress, but short enough to get unpaid tickets back into circulation quickly.

During high-demand sales, once there are only a few tickets remaining, things become a bit more complicated. People are loading the ticket selection screen, and need to see what tickets are available (not yet reserved). But at this point they are not yet reserved. So, even if you see them on screen at this point, by the time your request is processed, they may have been reserved by others. That's when you'll see the message "Unable to allocate tickets."

Every effort has been made to make it as fair as possible. But, when there are more people requesting tickets than the number available, not everyone will be successful. I am constantly trying to improve and simplify the process. This will include better messaging and errors. But if you have any ideas, then please do let me know.
